• Two westerns by Jackson Gregory are in this eBook Six Feet Four & The Everlasting Whisper A Tale of the California Wilderness

Six Feet Four (1918)
A cowboy who is 6-foot, 4 inches is the same height as the suspect in a hotel robbery, and when a young damsel is also robbed the cowboy is the chief suspect. The real criminal appears to be the sheriff and a gang who follow his orders, so the cowboy sets out to clear his good name. This book has everything a good western should have - outlaws, cowboys, a damsel in distress, a bent sheriff and a stagecoach robbery.

The Everlasting Whisper A Tale of the California Wilderness(1922)
It was springtime in the California Sierra when a man on a clifftop witness two figures being torn apart. One drew back quickly. The other fell, dropping down a dozen feet, and hitting a ragged rock before he began to roll. That's when the man who had seen it all spoke aloud for the first time "Swen Brodie. There's not another man in the mountains brute enough for that."

I enjoy the old westerns written around the turn of the last century and this story is from that era. The one thing with which I particularly take issue is the author's condescending attitude toward women. The second story in this book is a particularly bad in denigrating the heroine, making her out to be a frivolous, shallow and contrary society deb with no real reason for existence. The stories are well written but with more narrative than action; at times I found myself passing through a number of pages to get past an extended description of a situation. Unlike many contemporary western stories, there is a lack of action with more description and talking than doing. Also unlike so many contemporary stories, these are technically well written so there are no grammatical, punctuation, spelling, etc. errors.

Six Feet Four A Western Mystery edition by Jackson Gregory Frederic Remington Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Loved these two books. Favorite was the first one in the title. Great western with great story!
Two decent westerns put back to back make a very good read. A little different but entertaining nonetheless. Look for more from the author.
A good story, but I found the dialog a bit confusion at time and had to go back a few pages and re-read, It was the way the author wrote.
Anyone that has been surrounded in an environment of guns and horses as I have most all my life will find it difficult reading a
western story they do not like.
I really thought is was a good story. Some interesting twists f\that kept me glued to the page. I am only 5' 3" and live in Tucson so it was a delightful experience to see the action from a higher level.
Wasn't familiar with this writer but took a chance as it was only a dollar or so. This is a good period piece at least the second story was as it was written as a 1920 era story of the new west. The descriptions of the Sierra mountains make me want to tell my wife and daughter see you in a month, I'm going camping in the mountains. Evil villians and good hero.
Although it would be easy to criticize Jackson Gregory books as formulaic and the stories as similar - man's man mystified by beautiful gray-eyed girl + misunderstandings + villain + danger, rescue and etc., they are fun and all different. After all, there are only about ten stories in literature. Romeo & Juliet; Romeo & Juliet with a happy ending, etc. Change characters. Repeat. The writing is enjoyable, the descriptions of place and time effective, the pace often very good. I am glad I found them.
